Over a hundred years ago, Sutter Health took shape with the aim of aiding local communities in managing surging populations, outbreaks, and natural calamities. This initiative was driven by a collective effort among physicians, hospitals, and community members in Northern California who came together to establish the non-profit Sutter Health network, envisioning sustained healthcare services for future generations.
Initially, Sutter Health existed as an interconnected group of independent healthcare providers. However, challenges like escalating expenses and reduced compensation for services rendered posed substantial hurdles for hospitals and physicians to sustain individual operations. In the past decade alone, more than a hundred hospitals in Northern California have shuttered their services, while a majority of the state’s physician groups are confronting significant challenges.
About Sutter Health
As a non-profit entity, Sutter Health channel our resources back into the community. Within Northern California, Sutter hospitals cater to a larger portion of the Medi-Cal patient demographic compared to any other health system*. We take pride in supporting and collaborating with community initiatives, aiming to guarantee that individuals in need can access both healthcare and social services.
Based in Sacramento, we extend coordinated care to over 3 million Californians. Our integrated network has established a unified care approach, delivering well-coordinated healthcare precisely where, when, and how people require it. Our commitment remains steadfast in ensuring that healthcare remains accessible and inclusive for everyone. To achieve this, we offer a wide array of comprehensive services and top-notch health programs tailored to meet the unique needs of the diverse communities under our care.
