About Five Guys

Five Guys has remained a beloved choice in the Washington, DC area since 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell gave wise counsel to their four young sons: “Start a business or pursue higher education.” Opting for entrepreneurship, the Murrell family embarked on the path of business and established a burger joint in Arlington, Virginia.

Under the guidance of Jerry and Janie Murrell, the Murrell family served only hand-formed burgers grilled to perfection and fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil.

Now, 30 years after Five Guys first opened, there are nearly 1,700 locations worldwide and another 1,500 in development. Five Guys continues to receive significant media attention and has developed a cult-like following globally.
